The 2026/27 season marks an exciting milestone for Navan Hockey Club, as for the first time the Men’s section will field two senior teams in Leinster competition.
Following a strong campaign last season, the Navan Men’s 1st Team will continue competing in Division 4, while the newly formed Men’s 2nd Team will begin their journey in Division 6.
The addition of a second team is an important step forward for the Men’s section and reflects the continued growth in player numbers within the club. It also creates more opportunities for players to experience competitive senior hockey, while providing a pathway for younger players making the transition into the senior game.
Building for the Future
Pre-season has seen good numbers returning to training, with a mixture of established players and younger members competing for places across the two squads.
Having a second team gives Navan greater flexibility to develop players at different stages of their hockey journey. For those stepping into senior hockey for the first time, Division 6 provides an opportunity to gain valuable match experience while continuing to develop alongside more experienced teammates.
At the same time, competition for places within the 1st Team continues as the squad prepares for another challenging year in Division 4.
October Gets Underway
Both teams begin their October campaigns on 3rd October 2026, and both will make the trip to Monkstown.
The 1st Team will face Monkstown HC M4, while Navan M2 will play their historic first competitive fixture against Monkstown M5.
Both sides then have home fixtures at ALSAA on 10th October, with Navan M1 taking on Dublin North HC 1 and Navan M2 facing Avoca M5.
For the Men’s section, this season represents more than simply another year of competition. Two Navan teams taking to the pitch means more hockey, more opportunities and another important step in the continued growth of the club.
